Eating habits in Britain
English light breakfast consists of toasts with marmalade, tea or coffee,scrambled eggs with beacon, sausages, porridge or cereals with orange juice. The traditional full English breakfast is quite substantial. It consists of fried eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and fried bread. It may also include a slice of white or black pudding.The traditional English drink for breakfast is tea. They sometimes have strong tea with milk.
At 12 or 1 p.m. the English have lunch. Some people just eat a sandwich for lunch. Others have lunch in a restaurant or a café, where they may order soup as a starter and a hot-dog, steak, roast beef or fish and chips and French fries and pickles as a garnish for the main course.
There is a tradition of five o’clock tea. Actually they have it between 3 and 6 p.m. English people have tea with biscuits, scones, muffins, apple pie, fruit or a fruit salad.
At about 7 or 8 p.m. they have dinner. For dinner they eat soup, such as chicken soup with onion, soup with mutton and vegetables or soup with meat. The main course include meat, vegetables, pasta or rice. A common garnish for dinner is traditional Yorkshire pudding.
Later they may eat something light, which is called supper.
