Alenushka by Victor Vasnetsov

The picture is called ‘Alenushka’. It was painted by Victor Vasnetsov in 1881 and is exhibited in the State Tretyakov Gallery. 

In the picture we can see a girl sitting on a rock on the bank of a river. She’s looking sadly in front of her, missing her brother Ivanushka. In the background there’s an autumn forest.   

The painting is based on the plot of a Russian folk tale. The painter especially loved this canvas, which reflects the mysterious sadness of the Russian soul.
